The Morose Society

  • Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches 3220 Manor Road Austin, TX, 78723 (map)

The Morose Society is a piano trio that plays sad songs from Austin, TX. Frontperson, Jill, is the creative spearhead of their baroque pop sound that encompasses blues, folk, and indie rock genres while Maddy (violin) and Julie (cello) keep the music cohesive with their lush instrumentation. Primer, the band’s first full length-album, is a series of love songs featuring protagonists with distorted viewpoints. The trio’s follow-up, Descending, is a burnbook written on the way to adulthood. As Jill puts it: “Knowing yourself is one thing; finding and existing among people who both accept your wickedness and don’t completely exhaust your kindness is another.”

“At moments you are listening to progressions that feel like torch songs with an Irish folky feel, but they rapidly evolve into what can be described as trippy pseudo-show tunes… If you are ready to shake off the cobwebs of modern day pop, give this EP a listen.”
